Supported Employment

Meet Austin!

Austin H. is curious, creative, and interested in music, video games, sports, and museums. Through Wesley Glen’s Community Access Mentor program in Macon, he and his mentor, Robin, choose activities that reflect those interests. Austin enjoys visits to the library, where he can keep learning and exploring.
Robin has seen Austin grow more comfortable expressing himself and spending time in public places. His story shows what can happen when a neighbor’s own interests guide the experience—and a trusted relationship helps open the door to more.
A job can be a place to use your skills, build relationships, earn income, and contribute to your community. Wesley Glen’s Supported Employment program helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) explore work that fits their interests and abilities, and helps local employers find people ready to contribute.

The right placement begins with listening to both the neighbor and the employer. We learn what a business needs and look for a meaningful match with a neighbor’s strengths and goals. Individualized coaching and ongoing support help both parties build a successful working relationship.

Wesley Glen serves neighbors who already participate in our residential or community programs, as well as eligible people in the broader community. You do not have to live at Wesley Glen to ask about Supported Employment.

Work that reflects a neighbor's strengths.
Our team gets to know each neighbor’s goals, strengths, and support needs. From there, we help with employment planning, preparation, finding a good match with an employer, and support on the job. We continue working with neighbors and employers as they learn together and needs change.
Neighbors interested in employment can build skills through Wesley Glen’s Working Group. These sessions offer a place to explore work interests and practice skills while individual employment plans and opportunities develop.
Â
Wesley Glen is one of only five Georgia providers to participate in the University of Georgia’s Advancing Employment initiative. The training and guidance from that initiative help our team strengthen its approach to employment shaped around each person’s abilities, interests, and goals.
Preparing for what comes next.
A partnership that works for neighbors and employers.
